The mine in Realmonte, with other Sicilian mines, supplies most of the salt used in Italy. This is not just a resource, but also a fascinating place that carries a lot of stories: from the history of the Mediterranean Sea to the relationship of mines to religion. This book is inspired by one of the salt walls of the Realmonte mine which
shows all the different layers of salt that have been deposited over centuries, creating incredible shapes.
These layers are then translated into ‘layers of information’, where each layer tells a different story related to the salt and the mine, intending to make people aware of what is behind this substance we use every day.
