Katowice 2021, website, [2021/22] Katowice is the so-called capital of coal in Poland. In fact, in the 18th century rich deposits of coal were discovered and fueled its rise from a small village to the metropolis it's now. In the last few years, things have changed: the mines are starting to diminish and clean-energy transformation plans are being made. But the journey to arrive at a safe level of air pollution is still long.
This project investigates what is influencing the rates in the city. It takes into account things like human behaviour, seasons, precipitation, wind and more. The website makes you also compare other years or other cities.
As we can see, Zurich is the city with the least amount of air pollution in Europe, which is a good example of what a city like Katowice should aim for.
